After hearing several rave reviews about Ruth's Place, I decided to give them a try this past Saturday night around 8. I went alone and planned to get my food to-go. Upon walking in I was reminded of the building's..."past life"...as the walls are lined with mirrors and there is a prominent stage that now hosts live music. This gave me a slight uneasiness, as I've never frequented an "establishment of debauchery" before, but I pressed on toward the bar to place a to-go order.

After placing my order of beef tips and rice, collard greens and yams, I was informed that they were out of their signature sweet potato cornbread for the night. No biggie. Fortunately, I didn't have to wait longer than 10 minutes, and my food was bagged and ready to go. Before leaving, I checked my order and saw not only the huge portion of beef tips, but that I was given butter beans instead of yams. I informed the bartender (whom I assume was the MOD for the night) and she quickly made things right.

Taste: I thoroughly enjoyed everything, save the collard greens only due to the fact that they were sweet. (And, no, it wasn't from the yams since they were in a separate container.) Sugar does not belong in vegetables. Clutch your pearls, revoke my Southern card, whatever, but sweet vegetables is in the same category as sugar in grits: a no-no. That aside, everything else was perfect. The beef tips were tender and flavorful, the yams gooey and heartwarming, and the butter beans peppery and cooked to the perfect point of breaking down, yet still having some shape.

Overall, I will try them again and recommend you give them a shot. :)

Went in for Sunday lunch about 1PM. Ordered smothered pork chops, mac and cheese, and collards plus chicken fingers and fries for my child.

Pork chops had clearly been sitting under a lamp for a long time as they were luke warm, dry and tough. Same thing for the chicken fingers (my kid described them as "hard to eat").

Macaroni and cheese was dry, noodles were overcooked and it all was bland.

Collards were good but were clearly canned collards that had been doctored up with some meat for flavor.

No idea how this place has high ratings.

The food was ok! Food could have been just a little hotter (Being we arrive 30 minutes after opening) but the service was excellent....
    I love the open space
    Large bar area
    Excellent service staff
Fried chicken - ok, wasn't right out the fryer
    Collar greens - good
Potato salad- ok (great; if you like a lot of eggs)
    Wine: always good

However, I would try it again when I'm in town...

Visited here about a month ago and was very displeased with the service. Our server was overworked and talked to us in passing every time. However the food was pretty good. We returned here on yesterday to treat my dad for Father's Day. We arrived around 11: 30 am or so - early enough to beat some of the crowd. There were a few small tables filled and 2 party groups that had their foods already.

Our server Danny was very prompt. We received our drinks and appetizers in a reasonable amount of time. Our entrees (burger, blackened salmon and fried pork chop) must've taken 45 minutes to come out, if not more and when we did receive it, it was lukewarm. I requested to replace my smothered pork chops with just plain chops due to the cold, watery gravy. Another 30 minutes or more must've passed and I still had not received them. At this point it was beginning to get really crowded and we had to get moving. Danny apologized for the wait and explained that there was a hold up in the kitchen and offered me a refund. A portion of my dad's burger was raw and he refused to send it back due to the wait time.

This place has great potential BUT the service is absolutely horrid. They were not equipped in May during my first visit and they still aren't equipped a month later.  Quality of the food is very inconsistent. The front and back of the house was definitely understaffed. I can't imagine how things went down after we left- at that point it was really crowded.

    Be prepared to wait. Seriously.
